GRADUATION PROGRAM IN SCIENCES (MICROBIOLOGY)

The Graduation Program in Sciences (Microbiology) of the Institute of Microbiology Paulo de Góes, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, comprehends Master and Doctorate (similar to PhD in the USA) in the areas of Microbiology and Immunology. Ranked as level 7 by CAPES (maximum level), this program was created in 1965, being the first Graduate program in this country in these areas. Since its creation, it has been a national reference for the excellence of its faculty members, composed of nationally and internationally recognized researchers; resulting in the high academic performance of our students, who, due to the intense internationalization characteristic of the Program, have opportunities during their PhD activities to carry out internships in advanced research centers abroad through PSDE-CAPES program and other types of fellowships. For all these attributes, our research group has recognized scientific leadership, being the Institute of Microbiology Paulo de Goes considered one of the most important research centers in South America in the areas of Microbiology and Immunology.
Our primary goal is to form highly qualified human resources at Masters and PhD levels with critical and independent thoughts with innovative characteristic in the areas of Microbiology and Immunology, aiming to stimulate the scientific advance in both basic and applied research directed to the national and global needs. Currently, the Program presents a group of 48 accredited Professors, 45 permanent and 3 collaborators. The course offers Masters and Doctoral fellowships granted by the CNPq, CAPES and FAPERJ, including sandwich scholarships to carry out part of the doctoral thesis abroad.
For students wishing to apply for Master and Doctoral programs, there are generally two entries per year, in March and August, and the registration period, necessary documentation and selection criteria are available in this webpage.
